What do they do?
BCBAs and ABA Therapists work with children and their families to provide ABA-based services by using the research-based scientific principles of learning and motivation to effectively teach. ABA focuses on the idea that the environment and the consequences of what we do affect what we learn and what will do in the future. Positive reinforcement is the driving force behind increasing positive behaviors in a meaningful way!
Intensive Teaching (IT)
Instruction that provides multiple learning opportunities with a lot of reinforcement to teach skills
Natural Environment Teaching (NET)
When skills are taught in the natural environment to ensure generalization of skills
Antecedent Interventions
Strategies are developed to intervene before the child engages in negative behavior. This is used to increase positive behaviors
Verbal Behavior Approach
Analysis of behavior to increase communication skills
Replacement Behavior Strategies
Behaviors taught to replace undesirable behaviors
Contingency Management
Consequences such as reinforcement or error correction are provided for a response to shape learning
Group Instruction
A group lesson with one teacher to 2-5 children. All children have 1:1 support during this instruction
Functional Behavior Assessment
Used to determine the reason, or function, behind problem behavior so an appropriate and equivalent replacement behavior can be taught
